What a fantastic day. We were all absolutely amazed by the level of interest, and exceptional standard of the participants and attendees.

The last chance to meet the Designers and see their designs on display at the Green Building Centre will be on Wednesday 15 October at 5.30pm-7.30pm, for a special evening Drinks with the Designers Event. Come along and see the winning entries and talk with some of the winners. Each design addresses the Green Building Principles.

SUSTAINABLE small HOUSE DESIGN COMPETITION
The competition was to Design a Secondary Dwelling – aka ‘the Ultimate Green Granny Flat’.
The winners received Over $5000 worth of cash & products/ services.
The winners were announced at the Sustainable House Day Awards and Trade Expo on Saturday 13th September 2014. Thanks to all the designers who entered and the many folks who came along on the day.
The Sustainable Small House Design Competition aimed to promote green building in our community and was specifically focused on small, affordable secondary dwellings or flats.
The Categories and Prizes:
Professional: 1st Prize: $1,000 cash prize from UBIQ plus 1 year Display of your business at the Green Building Centre (value $2,000) Total value $3,000 2nd Prize: 1 Year Membership with Master Builders Association.
Community – Lismore: $500 cash plus CAD 3D Rendering of your design (value $600) Total value $1,100.
Community – Byron: 500 cash plus CAD 3D Rendering of your design (value $600) Total value $1,100.
Young People’s Dream (Two categories: Primary School age and Secondary School age): 1st Prize $200 cash (each age group) 2nd Prize $50 cash (each age group) . Total value $500.
People’s Choice Award: Visitors were given vote cards on their way in and voted for their favourite design. $100 for the first prize from the NNIC and Seven On Sibley St Sustainable Living Hub.
Design challenges included meeting a range of criteria such as being smaller than 60m2 in floor space and showcasing the Green Building Principles.
The entries will be exhibited at Lismore and Byron Council offices, and the Green Building Centre at Byron Bay during October and November 2014.
